Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2003: Keep additional mailboxes settings

P

Peter Juuls

I am migrating Outlook2000 to Outlook2003 using a custom11.prf-profile.
(Excange2003 hosts all mailboxes, no POP3, no Hotmail, we only connect to
Exchange mailboxes)

One issue that I haven't solved yet is how to keep additional mailboxes
settings from the Outlook2000 profile. Now they are ignored and no options
in the custom11.prf addresses this. My best workaround by now is to grap the
list of additional mailboxes from the Outlook2000 profile, reading the
Registry settings, and after the migration, mail the list to the user and
have he/she adding the mailboxes manually.

Any better suggestions?

Thanks
Best regards
Peter Juuls

What's in your .prf file? If you're upgrading there should be no need to do anything but turn on Cached Exchange mode.

Hi Sue,

My PRF-file looks like this - I should add that the installation is on
Citrix and Cache Mode is disabled, because it makes no sense on Citrix.

Best regards,
Peter Juuls

The Citrix installation is running Office2000, including Outlook2000. Now we
migrate to Office2003. We want to preserve users Outlook profile settings,
when moving from Outlook2000 to Outlook2003. Most important settings to
preserve are additional mailboxes, signatures, rules and attached pst-files.

Firstly, we have had some problems migrating signatures for a small number
of test users. This showed to be related to the name of directory, where
signatures are stored. The directory name depends on the language version of
Outlook 2000. In our testlab Outlook 2003 cannot migrate signatures reading
the path of the signature directory from registry. They must reside - before
migrating - in the directory Outlook2003 defines. We have found a workaround
for this, copying the signatures into the right directory via group policy.

Secondly, there remains this issue on additional mailboxes in the
Outlook2000 profile. They seem to be completely ignored by Outlook2003, no
matter the language version of Outlook2000.

Nothing on that list gives any indication of a need to update the mail profile. I would leave it alone. In other words, don't include any mail profile modifications.

As for the signatures issue, AFAIK Outlook 2003 should be looking in %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft for the folder whose name is listed in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\General in the REG_SZ value named Signature. Maybe that's the reg key that needs to be managed to get the signatures to work right without copying them.

Hi Sue,

Finally the issue has been solved:
- New users on Citrix, that never started Outlook, will run the custom11.prf
profile-file to avoid the create-Outlook-profile-wizard
- For existing users on Citrix, the custom11.prf profile-file is bypassed
and Outlook2003 itself migrates smoothly, keeping additional mailboxes,
pst-files and signatures. The custom11.prf profile-file is bypassed by
having a group policy initiate a logon-script that erases the value
ImportPRF = c:\program files\Microsoft Office\custom11.rtf from registry

Thanks for your help

As for the signatures issue, AFAIK Outlook 2003 should be looking in
%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft for the folder whose name is listed
in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\General in the REG_SZ value
named Signature. Maybe that's the reg key that needs to be managed to get
the signatures to work right without copying them.

The Citrix installation is running Office2000, including Outlook2000. Now
we
migrate to Office2003. We want to preserve users Outlook profile settings,
when moving from Outlook2000 to Outlook2003. Most important settings to
preserve are additional mailboxes, signatures, rules and attached
pst-files.

Firstly, we have had some problems migrating signatures for a small number
of test users. This showed to be related to the name of directory, where
signatures are stored. The directory name depends on the language version
of
Outlook 2000. In our testlab Outlook 2003 cannot migrate signatures
reading
the path of the signature directory from registry. They must reside -
before
migrating - in the directory Outlook2003 defines. We have found a
workaround
for this, copying the signatures into the right directory via group
policy.

Secondly, there remains this issue on additional mailboxes in the
Outlook2000 profile. They seem to be completely ignored by Outlook2003, no
matter the language version of Outlook2000.

Hi Sue,

My PRF-file looks like this - I should add that the installation is on
Citrix and Cache Mode is disabled, because it makes no sense on Citrix.

Best regards,

I am migrating Outlook2000 to Outlook2003 using a custom11.prf-profile.
(Excange2003 hosts all mailboxes, no POP3, no Hotmail, we only connect
to
Exchange mailboxes)

One issue that I haven't solved yet is how to keep additional mailboxes
settings from the Outlook2000 profile. Now they are ignored and no options
in the custom11.prf addresses this. My best workaround by now is to grap
the
list of additional mailboxes from the Outlook2000 profile, reading the
Registry settings, and after the migration, mail the list to the user
and
have he/she adding the mailboxes manually.
