Outlook 2000 visual c++ runtime error

I am getting a message box that says:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
E:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OUTLOOK.EXE
abnormal program termination.
I have scoured the posts and tried the suggestions and nothing is working.
It seems that the problem started after installing sp3. It says in the Add
and Remove Programs that sp3 cannot be removed. Another peculiarity is that
I only get the error when trying to open a message or open a new message
dialogue. There are no events in the Event Viewer nor are there any error
codes in the error dialogue. I have McAfee v.10 Virus Scan and v.7 Personal
Firewall.
