Outlook 2000, XP TaskItem, AppointmentItem woes

If you plan to support Outlook 2000 on up with managed code you most likely
will need to deploy different addins based on the Outlook version. The
signatures on the Outlook PIAs are different with the different versions and
for the most part not really compatible (other than being able to use the
Outlook 2003 PIA with Outlook 2007).

There never was a PIA issued for Outlook 2000, you have to modify the PIA
for Outlook 2002 for that.

My own rule of thumb is to use unmanaged code if I need to support Outlook
2000 and later, I develop on a machine with Outlook 2000 on it. For Outlook
2002 and later I also use unmanaged code developed on a machine with Outlook
2002. It's only if the app has to support only Outlook 2003 and later that I
would even consider using managed code.
