Outlook 2002 always requires confirmation when opening a Word attachment

Using OL2002 SP3...

When I double-click a Word attachment, it ALWAYS
gives me the potentially dangerous content warning
that requires me to choose "Open It" or "Save to
Disk".

Unchecking "Always ask before opening this type of
file" does not remove this annoying problem.

Since I have a constantly-updated Windows, Word,
and McAffee installed, I feel this warning is
unnecessary.

Can this default be changed to bypass the warning?

Sounds like it has been manually tagged as a level 2 security risk. Make
sure .doc isn't in the Level1Remove registry key. For details see;

Thanks for the info...but I'm not sure I explained
the problem clearly.

I CAN open .doc files.

I just always get prompted whether I want to open
or save them. Even if I UNCHECK the box that says
to always ask for this type of file, the next time
I get a .doc attachment, it asks. It doesn't block
opening .doc files, it it just annoying and
time-wasting to have to always confirm that I want
to.

On my wife's computer (also Outlook 2002) this
does not happen. The attachments just open when
double-clicked.

I compared the Registry key mentioned in the
article you sent, and hers is exactly the same as
mine -- there is no Level1Remove value in
hers...so I am doubtful that adding that value
would make a difference. (I might still try it if
I get desparate enough.)

We both use the exact same McAfee anti-virus
version, so it is also doubtful that this program
changed our registries in different ways.

I am at a loss for a solution to this problem.

Aha, I get you know. Sounds like you are not logged on as an administrator.
Since the "confirm open after download" option is a setting that affects all
computer users it can only be changed by an admin. The (known) bug is that
the option isn't grayed out when logged on with a restricted user account.

Once again, I do thank you for your help...

However, I am logged on as an administrator.
(sigh)

I confirmed this by going into User Accounts in
the Control Panel, and checking myself -- in fact,
other than Guest (which is turned off), I am the
only user.

Is there a generic Admin ID that I don't know
about?
