Outlook 2002 and Word

J

Jimmy H.

I seem to be having a similar problem (just started today) that some other
people in this newsgroup are having with Outlook 2002 using Word as the email
editor. I'm running SP3 on both Word 2002 and Outlook 2002. I've tried the
suggestions in Microsoft Article #319796 that is also referenced in this
newsgroup with no luck. When I am either creating a new message or replying
to an existing message I get the same window from Outlook -

"This form requires Word as your email editor, but Word is either busy or
cannot found. The form will be opened with the Outlook editor instead."

I've even tried opening Word before Outlook, uninstalling Word, running the
Detect/Repair from Office, Word and Outlook and nothing has worked..Anyone
out there have any ideas I haven't tried?

Sorry to reply without an answer to your problem except that I have also
started to experience a similar problem using Outlook 2003 and MS Word,
after a similar message to the one below I now get "interface not
registered" when trying to send an e-mail using MS Word as the text editor.

Help from someone please bfore I try to reinstall!!

The answer's been posted here many times. Google Groups is your friend.

This is only a temporary solution at best for some people, it does not
perminently resolve it on any of the systems at my office that have the
problem.

Are you saying that even after reregistering the DLL that eventually the
error returns?

Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying.

I don't have any solution. You're the first person I've seen reporting
this. Most people who have been able to use the registration repair have
never reported any problems after that.

This is definitely not an isolated incident, I have several computers at the
office that are experiencing the same issue and re-registering the DLL is
required so often on the same machines that I just distributed a batch file
with the command to everyone having the problem so they can fix it
themselves, even though it's only a temporary fix. I also did a google
search and found other people reporting the same issue with registering the
DLL failing to resolve the problem.

I agree. This is a very frequent problem with no consistent solution.
There appear to be a whole host of causes for this error message. Most have
no solution. Here are a few that do:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q284900
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q319796
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q196871
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q223934

In the most refractory of cases, you can try this at your own risk:
Get the Windows Installer Cleanup utility from Microsoft.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

Then uninstall Word and run the installer cleanup utility to remove anything
that has Word in it and\or remove information from any previous version of
Microsoft Office. Reboot. Then re-install Word. Reboot. Then run Office
Detect and Repair. Reboot.

To use the Windows installer cleanup utility to remove Word:
1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Install Clean
Up.
2. In the list of installed programs, click Word or the earlier Office
installation, and then click Remove.
3. When the removal process is completed, click OK, and then click Exit.

I just started having this problem today - it's very annoying. i've tried all
the solutions you've mentioned except for the one that has to do with the
windows installer cleanup utility. Can you tell me that this will definitely
work? I'm running XP home edition, MS Office XP Professional 2002 and have
never had any previous versions of MS Office installed on this computer.
Please help! thanks - Stan

No one can tell you any of these solutions will work.
I already stated that.
