Outlook 2002 Application error

C

crossroads

Been using Outlook 2002 Calendar for 6 years. As from last week, whenever I
close it a message box appears headed "OUTLOOK.EXE Application Error" and the
contents; "The instruction of "0x3552fe3a" referenced memory at "0x356e2b98".
The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program."

Strangely, when I quit Outlook and the above message appears, my desktop
shows a remnant/leftover "piece" of the Outlook window which shows the "look
for, Search In, Find Now" function...just that strip about 5" wide and 1/2"
high. It too still remains, despite my attempts to fix below.

I've run Detect and Repair 3 times and rebooted. I've run Onecare.Live.
The problem persists. I have Windows XP Home (SP3) and Office 2002.

I see on web searches this is a common problem but strangely I can't find a
solution anywhere. Hopefully there'll be one here.

Same story here. Any solutions anyone? Suddenly started getting the error
message box after closing Outlook every time from 2nd March 09, (but not
getting the desktop remnant Crossroads mentions).

Error in log shows:
Faulting application outlook.exe, version 10.0.6838.0, faulting module
msmapi32.dll, version 10.0.6772.0, fault address 0x0000fe3a.

Still having this same error message. Saw a similar case on an AVG forum.
Do you by chance use AVG Internet Security dial999? I also saw on other
sites that it could be caused by one of Microsoft's NET updates.

Any ideas anyone, perhaps even someone from Microsoft?

Hi,

I am having a very similar problem as Phil. Thought I would put what I am
seeing in point form. First I am using Windows Office XP Standard and I have
had it installed for 6 years. My copy was purchased from a retailer and not
part of my "computer package". I still have the original disk and "Product
Key" (and the actual cardboard box LOL). The other thing I use is AVG
Internet Security as Phil mentions. Also I do have most of the Net Updates,
but again I have had these for some time before the problem started.

* Recent there was an auto update but I'm not sure if that is the reason for
my problem. At the time the problem started I noticed a new icon in my task
bar at the bottom and when I right click on it I see it is about validation.
It is like a blue Star symbol.

* If I select any of the options I am told my version of Office is not
validated ..... strange after having it for 6 years on the same computer.

* If I go to the "Help" section of Outlook, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint and
select "Activate Product" I am told that my program is Activated. From my
understanding this is a little different to "Validating" my version.

* If I shut down Outlook I get exactly the same error message that
crossroads first mentions. This does not happen with any other Office
Programs.

* On a reasonable regular basis I get a pop up window about Validation and
if I select this I go through the same process and if I used the new Blue
Star icon. (I can also click on "Remind Me Later").

* A email to Microsoft was no help and I am certainly not paying for help
when the programs have been working for some time before the problem started.

* Another thing I have noticed since then too is that AVG warns me about a
Tracking Cookie "m.webtrends" which I have not had since this problem
started. In fact I also received another warning when logging onto this site.

I am not sure what to do about this "problem". It does not seem to effect
anything that much but it is annoying and I can not see any way of stopping
it. I have wondered about reinstalling Office and seeing if that helps, but
I would be concerned about losing many of my emails. I have a lot of emails
from research I have been involved in for about 5 years.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Regards

Craig

No, I still have not found any answer to this problem either. I am now
wondering about un-installing Office XP, but I am not sure what will happen
with my Outlook emails. I have been involved in researching a place and I
have many emails that are quite important.

Hi Seeseeme. You can try reinstalling outlook. I would be interested to hear
your results.
To avoid losing any email you can download a useful tool from microsoft
updates for outlook. It is a back up tool which on a user defined basis
copies your outlook pst file to a seperate user defined location on your
computer. Make sure though that if you auto archive your outlook that you
back this up as well.
When you have reinstalled outlook click on file top left corner, go to
import export and then import from file or progam, next find personal folder
file (.pst), then point to the file you have backed up and proceed.
I hope this helps and would be interested to hear your results. Good luck Shoe

Uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook should not affect your data in any way,
but it's always a good idea to make backups before any significant action.
