Hi,

I am trying to understand how to archive to reduce my inbox and reopen these
emails should I ever need them.

2 issues please -

Archiving
I have tried to manually archive a inbox messages older than a set date.
Saved them as a name . However the email is still in my inbox that should
have been picked up by the date (received) that I set up in archiving. What
did I do wrong.

Then

Restoring / opeing archived items

How do I do this. The location of a file PST is in the default location
under Doc and Settings but I click on it and nothing happens. Do I have to
importthe file from Outlook? How is this doe?

Cheers
MIke

Archiving works on the Modified timestamp, not on the Received
timestamp. Add the Modified column if you want to check what date that
archiving will use. For example, you might have some really old e-mails
in a folder but if you move them then the Modified date changes.
Archiving is to remove unused entried, not old-dated entries.

If you keep touching an item then you still using it. When you leave it
alone for longer than the N days you configured for archiving then it
becomes eligible for archiving. Although a dictionary book might be
dated back in 1960, or earlier, doesn't mean you want it stored in a box
in the attic if you are still using that dictionary.

Only Outlook knows how to read .pst files. There is no filetype
association of .pst files to Outlook. You must first open Outlook to
then use its File -> Open menu to load that archived message store.

Thanks- very helpful. I do not understand how to 'Add the Modified column'
though?

Can you assist with this?
