Outlook 2002 command line switches

I was of the opinion when Outlook "opened" it automatically sent a
'send/receive'. This is not the case for me. When I click on the icon I only
get Outlook to open to the "Inbox" folder which I have set in 'options'. The
only switch in the 'Target' line of Properties is the /Recycle switch.
Without the /Recycle switch I kept getting an error that it couldn't find
the "extend.dat" file altho it appears in a search. I have copied the
"extend.dat" to almost every folder I could think of where Outlook might look
for it.
2 questions: Could it be that this "missing" file could be the culprit
for the 'non-send/receive' error on opening? Does anyone know the command
line 'switch' for generating a 'send/receive' on opening? Thanks guys &
gals.

Within 1 minute of posting this question I happened to note a response to
another post about Outlook 2003 and the "Options" 'send/receive' setting
being less than 10 minutes (answer posted by RUSS VALENTINE - MVP). I changed
my setting to 12 minutes and lo and behold I got an automatic sed/receive
when I opened Outlook.

Now I only need an answer, if one exists, about the error message if I don't
use the /Recycle switch.
Thanks RUSS!

Put the switch back - it ensures that only one instance of an Outlook window
will open at a time.

Without the /Recycle switch I kept getting an error that it couldn't
find
the "extend.dat" file altho it appears in a search. I have copied the
"extend.dat" to almost every folder I could think of where Outlook might
look
for it.

The extend.dat file MUST always be in %UserProfile%\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook for Windows XP and
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook for Windows Vista. No need to create it.
Outlook will do that. If, however, the one that already exists contains
something unusual, you'll get an error similar to that (I suspect that the
error you see is different than what you're reporting). SO, which Outlook
closed, just delete the extend.dat file that's there and let Outlook
recreate it.
