Outlook 2002 File Size

I recieved a message this morning that the .pst file was full and I needed to
delete data. The file size is 1.7 gig. Now when I try to delete a email I
get the message that "the message interface has returned an unknown error.
Restart OutLook." Restarting does not help. I did run repairPST which
claimed to fix the file however I still can not delete anything.

Anyone have an idea how to fix this?
