Outlook 2002 freezes when I hit "Send" inside email message

I've been using my Outlook 2002 fine for years, and suddenly it started
freezing when I compose an email message and hit "Send." Sometimes it hangs
for a minute and then sends, and sometimes it just crashes. Any advice? Thank
you.
