The Outlook 2002 Preview pane made better use of screen space than the
Outlook 2003 Reading pane. Outlook 2003 wastes pixels on all four sides of
the pne by putting a gray border and a shadow around the message so that the
message appears to be on a piece of paper floating above the window. This
wastes valuable pixels around the actual text of the message. Outlook 2002
Preview pane did not have this problem and therefore more of the message
could be seen. Related to this is the increase in space taken up by the
header information in the Outlook 2003 Reading Pane vs. the more efficient
small space taken up by the header in the Outook 2002 Preview Pane. Also the
header information is not as easy to read because it is mixed in with the
message in the Outlook 2003 Reading pane, whereas it was much easier to
distinguish in the Outlook 2002 Preview pane because the header information
was above the message in a gray area.
