Outlook 2002 Still Runs After Exiting

I am using Outlook 2002 with XP Pro. All of a sudden,
Outlook continues to run after I exit the program. When
I try to reboot my computer, it wants to do an "End Task"
on Outlook.exe. The problem, though, is that the "End
Task" is usually unsuccessful and I just have to turn the
computer off manually. If you look in the Task Manager,
the application is not running but you do see Outlook.exe
under the Processes tab. I searched the knowledge base
and somehow found one article that suggested you
uninstall the Outlook Personal Folders Backup Utility. I
have done that and I still cannot shut my computer down!
Please help. Thank you.

Do you have any of the following on your computer:

1. PDA synchronization software
2. Fax software, especially WinFax Pro
3. Franklin-Covey Plan Plus!
4. Anti-virus set to scan incoming mail
5. Using Word as the message editor
6. Any other software that hooks into Outlook?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the SWEN virus, all mail sent to my personal account will be deleted
without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Linda asked:

The only thing that I know that's causing this is when you are opening
outlook for the first time.

1. If you are using the office toolbar, then you only need to click on it
once. Not twice

2. If you are using the quick launch on the lower left side of the task bar,
then you only need to click on it once. Not twice

3. If you are using the icon on your desktop, then you need to click on it
twice. Not 4 times

It's a common mistake and it's called patience.

Good luck

I do have Harmony, a synchronization software, running
and I do use the corporate version of Norton's to scan e-
mails. The puzzle, though, is that I have used both of
these with Outlook for a really long time with no
problems. Why now and how can I test to see where the
hangup is? Yesterday, I had three Outlook.exe's under my
Processes tab that I had to shut down to exit Windows
XP! Any help is much appreciated.
