Outlook 2002 & Windows 7

Having just bought a new laptop with Windows 7 HP preinstalled, I installed
my own Office XP suite.

The only issue is that Outlook doesn't seem to store my email password
properly. When I launch it I get the username and password popup with the
password as **********. Clicking OK gets my emails, and subsequent
send/receive works fine.

Anyone have any idea wheather this is an incompatibility between two MS
products, or any other ideas?

It's a known problem. As Office 2002 isn't supported on Windows 7 you may
have to either lump it or fork out for a version that is. (2003, 2007 or
2010 when it's released)

Thanks Guys,

Good old Microsoft, done it again. Amazing how many ways they manage to find
to screw more dosh out of the 'faithful' users.

This is an incompatibility, easy to understand when you consider that Office
2002 is 8 years old. Vista and Windows 7 require Office 2003 or better.

Amazing how many ways car makers manage to screw more dosh out of those Model
T and A drivers because the parts for them can't be found any more.

But a truly "faithful" user would have 2007 installed, and be preparing
to buy 2010! <VBG>

I drive a 20 year old Ford and can get parts with no problem, and find
mechanics that know what they're doing - and don't insist that after 5 years
I must buy a new car.

That's because they make more profit on spare parts than they did on the
original car!

The parts are coming from 3rd party vendor, and MS doesn't "insist" you
buy a new Office, that's your choice.

I have the same problem with Office 2007 and that is only 3 years old. Seems
like MS should be able to maintain compatability with less than 3 year old
software.

Perhaps you have an add-in causing issues, as other folks aren't having
that problem with 2007.

No problems with Office 2007 remembering passwords on Win 7 that I've seen -
are you sure it's Office and not your Mail provider?
