outlook 2002 won't send email

I got a new desktop computer and have set up my outlook to connect with
verizon. This worked fine on my old computer and works fine on the laptop I
have with the same system & software. The new computer will receive email
but the composed emails just sit in my outbox. (I have XP professional -
version 2002 with Vista OS). Can someone offer suggestions? I have mimicked
everything on my laptop that works but can't find anything different on new
desktop.

More info: this is the message I recieve when trying to send "Task 'Home
Email - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to send the message.
Please verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The server
responded: 550 5.7.1 Authentication Required'". (I can recieve email - no
errors.)
