Outlook 2002

In backing up my calendar & contacts to my hard drive I end up creating
another Personal Folder with a Deleted Items folder attached. The icon is a
box with folders in it which is different from the icon on Personal Folders.
When I try to close the Personal folder I get an error message "The operation
failed. An object could not be found."

I had this happen before but was able to close the folder. How can I close
these & keep them from appearing?

How did you do this "backup"?

I click on the folder I want to copy then click on File, Import and Export,
Export to a File, Personal Folder File (.pst), select a folder to export (the
correct on is highlighted), check Include Subfolders, click Next. The next
screen brings up the folder on my hard drive & I just need to make sure it
has the correct file name, check Replace Duplicates with Files Exported,
click Next.

At this point it should copy it, however, as I was writing this out I was in
Outlook going through the procedure & after I click the last Next instead of
copying it gave me the same error message, "The operation failed. An object
could not be found."

Now I'm really confused. This is the first time this has happened.

As posted here on a daily basis - import/export is not the way to make a
backup. Those functions are there purely to facilitate the transfer of
Outlook data to another application.
To backup your Outlook data all you have to do is to close Outlook and make
a copy of your pst file. That's all there is to it.

This information was given me by a "computer person", a friend of my sons.
Thank you so much for straightening me out on this. I will follow your
procedure from now on. Do you know any way to close the 2 Personal Folders I

Yes - right click on the root of each Personal Folder and click "Close"

Sounds like a damaged mail profile. Close Outlook and open the Mail applet
in Control Panel. Click the Data Files button. How many PSTs (Personal
Folders files) to you see? If more than one, select any one that is not
maked as default and click Remove. Does it go away? If not, or you see
only one, then you'll have to create a new mail profile to correct the
problem. See this:
