Outlook 2002

Since installing Outlook 2002 and Microsoft ActiveSync on my computor, I
remain unable to get either of these programs to work. When I trigger the
Outlook Icon, I am shown a window that says:
"Unable to open your default e-mail folders. Could not open them. Try again."
I am then asked:
"Would you like to open your default file system folder instead?" Y/N.
When I select Yes, I then get placed into the "My Computor" site which
dsplays the following folders: Acer C. Acer D (drives), Shared Documents,
and Acer Documents folders.
As a consequence I remain unable to sync or download information onto my
PDA. Can anyone suggest a solution please? The computor is an Acer
Travelmate C111TCi Tablet laptop with Windows XP Tablet installed. Many
thanx, Tom.

Nilinomen, did you have a previous version of outlook installed prior to
installing Outlook 2002? If so, it should have imported your settings and
account(s). If not, you will need to set up a new account with the help from
your ISP. Generally it's this information that's missing that disallows the
account to work properly.

However, upon installation you may have altered the destination of the
default .pst file and it therefore is unable to work correctly. Check this
destination within your account settings to make sure they are correct and
that there is actually a .pst file there where it is currently searching for
it. Hope this has been helpful...Good luck!

KSB,
VMT for this info. I did originally have Outlook 2003 (part of the Office
2003 series)installed on the laptop when I first loaded Outlook 2002.
However, given that I then experienced problems with Outlook 2002, and it did
not import my previous settings, I removed the 2003 Outlook element as well
as Outlook 2002. I then reloaded Outlook 2002 in the hope this might cure
the snag; sadly no! Hence this plea for help. I will say that I simply
loaded Outlook 2002 automatically without specifying a destination. How
would I set up a new account by the way? Many thanx again. Tom.

Tom,
in order to set up a new account, go to Tools -> Email Accounts -> Add
new Email account -> from here you need to choose what type of account you
are setting up. Generally it's a POP3 account if you are using an ISP
(internet service provider), but like I said, you will need to get this
information from your ISP. You will generally need the email address, a
password and the POP3 and SMTP mail server names. The rest is pretty
straight forward via the wizard. If you happen to be wanting to get email
from a work email address, and they use Exchange then this can also be chosen
and set up here. You will only need to get the server name once again to set
this up. I believe once this is set up, you should be able to access and use
Outlook. Hope this has been helpful and Good luck!
