Outlook 2003 and Cisco VPN client

I just installed Outlook 2003 onto a user's laptop and it works fine
on our wired domain network. When he gets home he connects via Cisco
VPN client and Outlook 2003 does not work. It just keeps looking for
the server and just sits there. The user is able to ping the exchange
server so he is definintely on the network. Any ideas?

....by its NetBIOS name?
