I have never put together a true network before. At least one that go beyond
the occasional shared file (off the other computers hard drive), printer or
internet connection. I have used networks at work, so I can appreciate the
benefits of having one. I have two desk tops and 2 lap tops. Each machine
has its own copy of Office 2003. Therefore each machine has its own copy of
Outlook 2003 with its own pst file residing on its own hard drive. If you
open one machine, it dowloads messages into that pst file, so you end up with
your emails on all four machines. I have just purchased a NetgearSC101. This
is a device that has two hard drives and attaches to your router not a
particular computer. The drive is a net work drive that can be seen by all
four computers. I have moved a lot of data to the new network drive and have
not had a problem with the move or working with the data except with
Microsoft Outlook. I have moved the Outlook pst file to the network drive;
and I am using Microsoft Outlook 2003; I have had not problems using the file
from the desk top from which it came. I would like to have one Outlook pst
file and be able to access from the other computers at different times or at
the same time. Can this be done with Outlook 2003 or do I need to install
system like Microsoft Exchange 2003 (which I have little knowledge) to
accomplish this task. Is there any software where you can have outlook1.pst,
outlook2.pst, outlook3.pst, and outlook4.pst file on the network drive that
will syncronize each file with the other.
