Outlook 2003 and missing contacts

L

Lee Mackey

When I hit F11 in Outlook 2003 and I type in a name to
find, it comes back and says that the user is not there.
When I go into the contacts folder, the user is there.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

Is the folder marked as an Outlook Address Book? Is the Outlook Address
Book service installed?

Hello Lee,

Thanks for your update and thanks for Milly's input!

According to your description, I understand that when searching for a name
into Outlook 2003 which resides in the contact folder, Outlook could not
find the result. If I have misunderstood your meaning, please do let me
know.

Please have a check at the following point:

1. Right click the contact folder and select "Properties".
2. In the "Outlook Address Book" tab, check the option "check this folder
as an email address book".

Please let me know if you need further help. Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Arnold Gao

Yup it was and has been an addressbook. When I hit F11
and go into the contacts find window on the toolbar, it
won't find addresses that are in my contacts. So it's
not happening when I am typing a message, simply when I
hit F11 to search for the address.

Thanks!

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your update!

If you click the "Address Book" button in the Outlook tool bar and check
the "Show names from the:" drop down menu, can you see the contacts folder
there?

If you can see the contacts folder there but cannot see the contact entry
you want, please make sure that the contact "E-mail" address filled in.

I hope the information helps. Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Arnold Gao

OK I think I forgot to add something here. It works for
some of the names, but it doesn't work for some of the
names. I can't find anything that is common with the
contacts that don't work, nor do I find anything common
with the contacts that do work. When I click the Address
Book, and go to the "Show names In" drop down box, it is
there. It works when I want to email to folks, just not
when I'm searching for a users name. Also, I used to be
able to search for doctor, and it would find doctor
anywhere in the contact. Now it won't. Unless that is
in the name, it will not bring that up. Any thoughts??

Thanks

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your update!

Have you checked e-mail address in the contact? Please make sure that every
contact has an e-mail address. If not, we are unable to search it from the
Address Book.

Moreover, in Address Book please select Tools-->Options and check whether
the contact folder is in the "When sending mail¡" list.

If anything is unclear, please do let me know.

Sincerely,

Arnold Gao

OK, so there is some confusion here. Outlook 2003, when
you're looking at your inbox. You hit F11, and it goes
to the little white space at the top of the toolbar. You
type in a name, or you type a word that is in a contact,
it's supposed to bring up the contact that either has
that name, or contains the word you searched for. (At
least in Office 2000, and XP it did this.) In my event,
there are names that it will not find. Some have emails,
some don't. Some have other words, some don't. I can't
find any commonality to give me a reason why they aren't
being found. When I actually click on the Contacts
folder, they are there. Thoughts on this?
