Outlook 2003 and MSN Email - Help!

I have for years used versions of Outlook (98, 2000, XP and 2003) to access
my MSN Email account, using a POP3 configuration. I used to subscripe
directly to MSN as my ISP provider, but now get the MSN subscription as part
of my Verizon DSL package. I never had any issues using POP3 to access my
mail. A couple days ago, my incoming stopped working. After many tech support
phone calls, I was given the bottom line - MSN can now only be accessed as an
HTTP configuration

I set up a new configuration, and can again access my mail via OL2003.
However, the mail is now delivered into my new Inbox. I have many subfolders
in my POP3 Personal Folders account, including Calendar, Tasks, Contacts,
etc. I tried to copy them to the new personal folders, but could not. I dont
recall the exact message, but its along the line of HTTP Server does not
allow the importation of those folders.

I tried to set up a rule whereby all hew messages would get copied to my old
Inbox, but "HTTP Messages do not allow rules" or some such nonsense.

I want to be able to use all my POP3 folders without having to have two
separate personal folders. How can I use OL2003's full functionality, and
keep all my existing data from my Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes, etc, in
one personal folder that also gets my mail?

An HTTP account will always have its own set of folders and those folders
can never be the delivery location, unless you have a subscription to
Hotmail Premium and use Outlook Live to make your Hotmail folders the
delivery locaiton.

This could have to do with the fact that Windows Live Mail (formerly
MSN/Hotmail)has come out of beta. You should set up & use your ISP's POP mail
acct. with Outlook. Meantime, you will have to manually drag MSN mail from
the web inbox to your folders.

Yes, I COULD use Verizons email service and set it up with Outlook; however,
I have been using my MSN acct for so long, I am reluctant to change it...

And correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds as if you are implying that I
WONT be able to use my MSN account AND use Outlook's fulll functionality.

I am still abashed,though I guess not surprised, that Microsoft's best email
client and Microsoft's email service dont really "play well together." That
sort of persnicketyness is best left for family politics or the school
playground.....

Oh, does the "Outlook Connector" offer any help, or does that just let me use
Outllook to access all the Windows Live Mail functions?

Huh?
I dont WANT those folders to be the delivery location - I want MY folders to
be the delivery location. I now have two main .pst files on my computer. The
old one that has all the stuff I use and want and need, called outlook.pst,
and a new one called "MSN-00000012.pst" My mail now gets delivered to the
MSN****.pst file. Why the heck cant it go to the outlook.pst file instead??

I already have MSN Premium - I shouldnt have to pay for Hotmail premium too.

What I am asking for is simple:
One personal folder, with all of Microsoft Outlook's features available, the

If this can be done - GREAT, PLEASE let me know HOW!
If not, well, I just wont believe Microsoft/MSN is INCAPABLE of enablilng
this, and therefore would have to conclude that they are UNWILLING to enable
this.
And that speaks volumes

Because HTTP accounts don't work that way. They're closer in operation to
IMAP accounts or Exchange accounts, where the messages stay on the server.
The PST file that the account uses is a cache that mirrors the server that
helps speed up access or so that you can access the messages while offline
if you wish.

Outlook Live, which you should be able to download from the MSN Member area.
This will allow you to use your MSN folders as your only set of folders.

Who knows, but the latter wouldn't be a surprise. Nonetheless, it's reality
whatever the reason.
