I appreciate very much that you're helping me, Diane.
At the risk of being long-winded, let me explain what I'm
doing and how it's working. If you know of a better way
to accomplish the same result I'd love to know about it.
I'm moving from a Palm Pilot to a PPC. On the Palm there
is (for lack of a better term) an area called "Memos"
where I keep a substantial amount of information. Each
Memo can be categorized. I use catagories such
as "Home" "Auto" "Computers" "Passwords", etc. as a way
to sort the Memos. I'm trying to implement a similar
capability using the PPC and Outlook (I'm running Outlook
2003 on my PC, Outlook 2002 on the PPC).
I'm using Notes in Outlook to do this. When I create a
Note on the PC, the first line acts as a Subject. I can
also assign it to an Outlook Category at that time. It
is listed in Outlook 2003 under the Subject heading, and
I can Arrange it on the PC by catagory.
When it syncs with the PPC, the new Note appears listed
by its title. If I open the note on the PPC, tap Tools
and then Rename/Move the display allows me to change the
Note's Name (Subject), to assign it to a Folder (which I
can newly create or use an existing one), and to change
its Location (either Main Memory or Flash ROM.
If I assign it to a Folder, upon synching again, it now
is listed in Outlook 2003 under the Subject heading
as "Folder\Title" without the quotes. It's very handy,
because the categories have no effect on the PPC, but
selecting a Folder in the Notes listing on the PPC
displays only those Notes assigned to that Folder.
I can find no capability in Outlook 2003 on the PC to
assign it to a Folder. If I try to create it (or edit
it) on the PC by using the Folder\Subject, the backslash
is changed to an underscore in the Notes listing on both
the PC and the PPC.
The Folder List in Outlook 2003 on the PC doesn't seem to
have any involvement in all this.
It's possible that Outlook 2002 on the PPC and Outlook
2003 on the PC are incompatible in this way, but since
I'm using Office 2003 on my PC and don't have a 2003
version for the PPC, I can't check.
There it is - I hope my problem is clear.

The ppc syncs directly with Outlook, no need for a folder on the desktop.
Where do you see a folder option? Active Sync creates a folder called
something like this: "Pocket_PC My Documents" where Pocket_PC is what you
named the PPC. Mine is under my My Documents folder but it wanted to create
it on the desktop.It is used for other file types - from word documents and
excel files to simple text files or images that you want to sync between the
two. But you don't need to move Outlook notes there.
What happens when you sync with Outlook? Do the notes you create on the ppc
copy over to Outlook and the notes in Outlook copy to the ppc?

Thanks, but I don't understand. When I look at a note on
the PPC, one of its options is "Folder". But I can find
no equivalent in Outlook 2003 on the desktop. Can you
explain further?

I'm trying to set up a PocketPC using PocketPC 2002 with
my Outlook 2003 on my desktop.
In order to keep Notes catagorized on the PocketPC, it
appears that I must use Folders. However, to create a
Note in Outlook 2003 on the desktop, I don't find a way
to use or assign a Folder that coordinates with Folders
on the PocketPC. I end up having to create a Note in
Outlook 2003, and then edit it on the PocketPC by
assigning it to a folder there.
This has to be easier - doesn't it?
