Outlook 2003 - Appears to delete messages prior to downloading

Hello - Recent install of 2003 when restoring an old laptop - thought I'd
give Outlook a try and am now regretting it immensely. :(

Outlook appears to be deleting UN-read messages from my domain other than a
select few from those I have emailed myself. This happens minutes after they
are sent - tried sending myself email from a yahoo account & those didn't get
thru either. Outlook is logging into my email accounts, deleting new messages
and then happily waiting for the next send/receive cycle so it can eat more
email. Why in the heck is this happening? I wouldn't mind the deletion on the
server if it would download the freaking emails first!

In exasperation, I've tried modifying safe recipient behavior but it does
not appear consistent as I've emailed some who I am missing emails for &
those email addresses still disappear into the ether.

Emails and contacts imported "ok" from my Outlook Express installation.
Email accounts worked fine with Outlook Express and Thunderbird.
I've created new accounts and they do not work either. Only the default
email account appears to function with safe recipients.

I would appreciate any input on a solution to this problem before going back
to Thunderbird which, though you had to build the functionality with plug ins
did not eat my email.

The default behavior for pop mail is to download & remove mail from the
server, unless you select the option to 'keep a copy on the server' when you
initially set up the mail account.

If you are trying to set up a yahoo mail account in outlook this may require
you installing the Outlook Connector (Same applies to Hotmail / msm free
mail accounts)

Hi -

This is for downloading from my own domain's mail server - not Yahoo. If I
can get it to behave properly then I'll link in other accounts so thanks for
that tip!

I do have Outlook set to leave copies on the server for the one account I'm
trying to fix. I disabled all previous, working spam filters on the server &
double checked settings. All issues occurred since Outlook was introduced
into the scheme of things.

Outlook problem is acting like a spam filter issue now, although being a new
install... I don't see how unless it has hidden settings I can't find. When I
check the account settings it will send the test email from Outlook and that
makes the loop back.

Here's an example of what I'm dealing with at this point:

Ebay emails are disappearing for sure - others I don't know since they're,
well, disappearing. Let's use Ebay since I know there's an issue there:

Ebay sends me an email that I won that auction for a nuclear powered toilet
plunger and emails the notice to (e-mail address removed) . I
never get any emails from Ebay but check the auction, see I've won and pay
via BidPay. I receive the payment confirmation from BidPay but not Ebay.
Still nada from Ebay.

I add Ebay to my Safe Sender's list and even send an email to Ebay to add
that domain to my Safe Recipient's list. Still not receiving emails from Ebay.

Create new email addresses on server and set up those accounts in Outlook.
Test messages from Outlook to itself all go through and all tests pass. Still
not receiving emails from Ebay.

/example

There are other emails I've expected from other domains, etc. but not
getting them, Ebay is just a definite example of what's going on.

Forgot to remind: Outlook is NOT downloading my mail... it's being deleted
without being downloaded. It isn't being downloaded & then deleted as I never
see it. Download progress bar does not show message downloads as far as I can
tell.
Have sent 'test messages' from yahoo etc. to address & did not receive those
either.
I did receive an email from someone listed in my address book - is it
possible that Outlook is filtering out ALL emails NOT from people in my
address book? As far as I know - that action is not enabled unless there is
yet another hidden setting to find...

This really is aggravatingly non-user friendly.
