Outlook 2003 Cached Mode - deleting and rebuilding cache

D

I have a user who uses Exchange 2003 on the Outlook 2003 client. I
have cached mode enabled on it.

The other week, no new mails were appearing. He actually noticed an
error in the send / receive box - error 0x800300FD but a Google of
this throws up nothing relevant.

He does have a very large mailbox (finance directors, tschhh!) which
is over 1GB. We set a warning at 1GB and no send receive at 1.5GB. He
is something like 1.1GB but I temporarily gave him unrestricted size.
The problem still exists.

I disabled cached mode and hey presto, all mails show came back
(fixed). I left him like this, then a week or so later, had another
look and re-enabled his cached mode. It was fairly quick to update so
I concur from that, that Outlook does not create the copy of mail
again. Also it showed no new mails in the previous week (broken
again).

Our support company have not got back to me and this is a low
priority, but I would like to close it down. I think I can if I can
delete all trace of his mail cache.

Question - how can I kill the cache and let Outlook client rebuild
from scratch? I've searched my own laptop and do not have an OST file,
so it is not how older Outlook and Exchange used to work. I've also
had a look for largeish files of current date and I don't think I
stumbled across it, so I imagine it breaks it up and stores it
somewhere.

Any help would be greatfully received.

TIA
