Hi,

Need help on issue below as I have tried everything & cannot solve th
problem.

1. I used to open Outlook 2003 using the icon on my desktop. The
without
doing anything to the shortcut target, I got an error
"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. The command line argument

not valid. Verify the swtich you are using."
Problem is that I dont thinl I am using any switches.

2. I did search all the Newsgroups and Microsoft support site, I stil
can't
get rid of this error. Either clicking the the Outlook icon on m
desktop or
double-clicking C:\Program Files\Microsof
Office\OFFICE11\Outlook.exe
directly would give me this same error.

3. Also tried start Outlook with Start-->Run-->Outlook and received

same error message. What should I do to get fix this problem? Any
sugestions ?

4. Also attempted to run repair of office. No change.

" double-clicking C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\Outlook.exe" or
double clicking outlook.exe from within explorer?

Hi,

I tried both.

Both gave same error message.
I am at total loss. Even removed
entire MS Office 2003 program & reinstalled & still
have same problem.

Have you tried, from the Run command (Start>Run), entering;
outlook.exe /safe (note space between exe /)

If that produces the same error then I'd suggest you have a problem with
your o/s
In which case, initially, see win help 'system file checker'
You havent been running any registry cleaners have you?

Hi DL,

You asked me if I had used any registry cleaners.

I now recall that I had used Spybot Search & Destroy
previously which prompted me to change or accept
changes to the registry. I think I started to have this
problem with Outlook soon after.

Cud this be the cause of the whole problem ?

I will appreciate very much your specific instructions
on how to rectify this problem.

I very much look forward to receiving your kind
assistance.

Thanks and best regards.

Spybot has an undo feature.

Allthough as Alias states SpyBot has an undo feature, it doesnt normally
impact on any legitimate Programs or their registry entries, it removes
cookies and various items deemed to be malaware and makes any registry
changes only in respect of these items.

Do you have a retail win cd or only a recovery cd?

Dear DL,

1. I actually removed the Spybot S & D after I found it to
irritating when it kept prompting to accept or deny changes in registr
keys.

2. I have a Lenovo T60 Business notebook. It therefore did not com
with either a Recovery Disk or Win CD. I think the support has alread
expired.

3. Please advise what I shud do next.

Thanks and best regards.

2. I have a Lenovo T60 Business notebook. It therefore did not come
with either a Recovery Disk or Win CD.

It would almost certainly have included software to allow you to make your
own recovery CD/DVD though.

I've moved things around on my R60 menus, but go to Start, Programs and
look for a "Create Recovery Media" option.

Thats because you set the Tea Timer Option, this option is not required for
the operation of SpyBot in scanning for malaware.
In my view you may have either malaware on your PC, or in some way the win
o/s files have become corrupt in some way.
I'm afraid I dont know what type of win repair options you get with a Levano
recovery disks/media
If it was my pc I'd be using the system file checker - see win help for how
