Hello,
I am trying to setup my Outlook 2003 to use my AIM/Netscape IMAP account,
but for some unknown reason Outlook cannot login to the IMAP server.
Interestingly, Outlook Express can login to the same host. In fact, Outlook
imported my account settings from Outlook Express (so, the configuration
should be the same). I am using Windows XP Media Center 2005 with all the
latest updates, and have Symantec Firewall and Norton Antivirus running as
well. I tried disabling the firewall as well as the antivirus software
without any luck.
Outlook keeps prompting for the password, even though the saved and correct
password is already in the profile.
I installed Network Monitor to see what is going on. It looks like - for
whatever reason - Outlook does not send my password, because I can see the
following in the transmitted data:
LOGIN "myusername" "".
I.e. the password is completely blank.
Not surprisingly the reponse from the server is:
NO LOGIN Failed. Incorrect name and/or password, please re-enter...
What I don't understand is that why Outlook is not sending my password when
(1) it is in my profile in the first place, and (2) even if I re-enter the
password when a dialog is brought up for my credentials after an unsuccessful
login attempt.
Your help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Bertold Kolics
