Hello --
I am an A+ Certified PC Tech, but I get a lot of questions from clients
about MS-Office and Outlook, which of course A+ doesn't cover. Anyway,
here is my current problem:
I have a client who is running Office 2000 on Windows XP Home -- I get
confused over the various Office "editions", but it's one that does not
include Outlook. They have recently become fed up with Outlook Express
(the way it habitually trashes the Inbox when it gets too big), and have
upgraded to Outlook 2003. After the initial install, an error would
come up each time Outlook 2003 started saying "C:\Documents and Settings
\<User>\Application Data\Microsoft\AddIns\C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\SBCMSYNC.DLL is not a valid Office addin". However, I
could dismiss this error box and Outlook would seem to function
normally. But now, several days after installing Outlook, Outlook auto-
closes after the error message, and in addition, my client is reporting
that something has trashed the Address Book in Outlook Express.
Can someone meake suggestions about what may be going on? I found
something in MS Knowledge Base Article KB261934 that suggested that this
could be the result of a bug in Office 2000 that could be repaired by
installing SR-1a. Could doing this possibly rectify the apparent
conflict between Office 2000 and Outlook 2003?
Thanks ahead.
