"The server name you entered can not be found on the network. Please verify
that you are online and that the server name is correct."
I get the above error (and only this error) when I let Outlook try to
connect to my POP3 email account with Earthlink. This is a dial-up account.
In Outlook, my connection type is set to:
LAN, connect via moden when Outlook is offline.
I get the error immediately - there is no attempt to dial.
I have no problems sending/receiving email if I'm already connected to the
internet. For example I can use Outlook without any problems if I go through
the Mail button on Internet Explorer. Also, if I connect using Dial Up
Network (I think that's what it's called) prior to launching Outline, Outline
will work fine when launched.
If in Outlook, I set my connection type to "Use my Phone Line" (instead of
LAN), Outlook will connect! But I get only a single Send/Receive and then
hangs up.
It's my understanding that this is normal behavior.
Under Options I have unchecked "Hang up after a manual Send/Receive".
I have temporarily disabled the McAfee firewall - this did not help.
I tried KB312336 (fixing a damaged Send/Receive group) - this did not help.
How can I get Outlook to connect to Earthlink and stay connected?
Thanks,
Pat
