Outlook 2003 Constantly Hangs

I've looked all over the web for a possible solution, but haven't found
anyone having this same problem. My Outlook 2003 hangs up all the time
(cursor goes to hourglass). It will hang for 15-20 secs., then be okay for a
minute, or maybe just a keystroke or mouse click, and then hang up again.
It's making me crazy!

I am not, in any way, a computer expert, so if you have a suggestion, please
keep it simple!

Thanks!

A few dumb questions for you:
- does this only happen in Outlook?
- has this always happened in Outlook?
- what OS are you using?

Yes...only in Outlook, and in all areas of Outlook (email, contact entry,
calendar, etc.)
No...it has been fairly recent (past few months), but has become more
frequent lately
Windows XP 2002 w/SP3

Thanks for any suggestions...Scott

Hmmmm, do you have Windows Search running indexing your Outlook content? If
possible, do you remember anything you might have done in the past few
months on your PC?

Index Searching is not enabled. I had thought that a smiley program that I
had installed might be the cause, but I removed it and same results (it had
been installed previous when I wasn't having problems, so I figured it
probably wasn't the cause). I do have another add-in program (Anagram), but
it also was installed previous to the problem. I might try removing that if I
can't find another answer.
