Outlook 2003 Contacts

On searching I have seen several postings asking this
question but none with a solution. Is there one?
Outlook 2003 shows the total number of contacts in a
folder but if you filter with, for example, a category it
helpfully shows that a filter has been applied but still
shows the total number, not the filtered number. Please
tell me if there is a way to get a count of the number of
records in the filtered view? I seem to recall a way of
adding a dummy contact in some way that allowed a count
field of some sort but I may just be imagining things?

If you group by the field you're filtering on, you should see the number of
items in the group heading.

Sue, this is in a public folder with defined filters to
include such things as x-mas lists. The user just
arranges by current view.

And the technique I described should work with such views.
