I began experiencing problems on 3 computers simultaneously, all running
Outlook 2003 and connecting to my email host's server using IMAP4. Outlook
experiences a "fatal error" and Windows XP closes it. In the error report
generated by Windows XP, it says that the failure is associated with the
files "ntdll.dll" and "outlook.exe". Troubleshooting has shown that this
problem only occurs when using IMAP connections, and not with POP3, and using
a secure SSL connection or not with the IMAP server does not make any
difference. Altho I may have two problems in the end, one associated with
the email server (since all three computers began failing at about the same
time), the problem associated with Outlook closing is clearly a problem that
should not be occuring and has nothing to do with the email host server.
Search of Microsoft KB has turned up nothing, *except* an article about
Outlook using an Exchange Server IMAP connection causing a similar crash and
which Microsoft had no resolution for in the article. I also found a KB
article about Outlook using a POP connection experiencing a crash involving
ntdll.dll, but all of the resolution steps shown for that one has not made
any difference in my problem.
Any advice for a resolution?
