Outlook 2003 data file size did not decrease after automatic archi

Hello
My Outlook 2003 data file from last year had size 1,6 GB so I decided to
make automatic archiving. I completely cancelled all messages older than 6
month and I supposed that data file size will decrease for approx.one-half.
But its size is the same without change! I don´t see the sense of this
archiving at all. Could somebody explain me? Or did I any mistake?

After you deleted or archived a substantial amount of data from your PST
file, you need to compact it in order to reduce the size. Right-click on
the Personal Folders file name, Properties, Advanced, then click on
Compact Now.

Many thanks. I tried it and it works. Outlook data file size decreased for
0,9GB.
