outlook 2003 display problems

Recently when I started Outlook to check my e-mail I saw that nothing was
visisble except the menu bar and the one toolbar that has the button for
send/recieve on it. The entire area below that was a blank grey space that
looked like what as a programmer recognized as a empty MDI parent form. I
thought that a setting had gotten corupted so I began first applying changed
view-related settings and then going back and choosing my preferred settings.
I discovered 2 things.

When I unchecked the setting on the View menu to display the status bar, the
missing elements reappeared but with odd font settings for the navigation
pane. The sections on the panel on the left show with a 24 point font. The
elements within such as the list of folders that shows up when I select Mail
are shown with a 20 point font.

If I enable the status bar, all the expected elements (navigation pane, list
of e-mails in inbox, preview pane, ect.) immediately dissapear again.

Can anyone give me any help at all on how to fix this? I've looked at all
the settings on all the tabs in Tools>Options and I can't find any options
that would affect the problems I'm having.

Try deleting the (usually hidden) file
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\outcmd.dat and then see how Outlook appears.
