Outlook 2003 E-mail Notification

Problem: Outlook fails to provide sound, desktop alert & envelope icon
for new mail.

Symptoms: Failure to notify only occurs when Outlook first starts. All
alerts function normally when program checks for mail while running.

System: New Office 2003 OEM install on XP Pro.

Odd coincidence &/or other complication: Mozilla Thunderbird 0.8 also
installed which provides sound alert on receipt of new mail but fails to
provide pop-up notification.


MS confirms there is a problem but only tells you how to recreate
it....no solution is provided:
