Outlook 2003 email address auto complete

In using Outlook 2003, the auto complete feature does not work reliably,
sometimes it will suggest names from my contact list, other times it will
not. Even though I am sure that the email address is contained in my contact
list. Is there any fix for this or do I need to 'reset' the function
someway? Please help. I am totally frustrated! thanks in advance.

Are you talking about Auto-complete or Auto-resolve? They are 2 different
things. Auto-complete works from teh cache of e-mail addresses to which you
have sent mail and has nothing to do with your contacts folder.
Auto-resolution will look to your Contacts folder.

I am having the same issue - with Outlook 2003 (sp3) and Outlook 2002 (sp3).
I believe the two people who are having this issue in my office are the
auto-complete for the most part, but also the auto-resolve as well. For one
of the users I used nk2view.exe and imported all of their contacts into this
file (which ends up being the *.nk2 file) and putting them last name, first
name <email address>. When this user types a person's name who is on this
list it should appear, but sometimes it does not. The other issue with this
same person is that whenever he types a name (someone he even just recently
sent an email to), it is not finding that name or email address. This is the
same issue with my other user.

Then it can't be autcomplete because Outlook 2002 didn't have the autocomplete
feature and does not use the NK2 file. It's nickname file, used by
autoresolution, has the file type .NICK.

the user that is on Outlook 2002 said that the email addresses were actually
in his contacts and now they are gone. is that really possible without him
deleting the contacts?

If you attempt to delete an entry from the Address Book view, that's exactly
what will happen - the address will be removed from the Contacts record. I'm
not saying that's what he did, but if he had, that's what he'd see.
