Outlook 2003 email becomes reliable after NIA NAV auto updates

Receiving email became erratic after Norton NIS 2004 installed some updates
on Dec 6 or 7. Problem seems to be with the NAV side of things.

Typical error message: Task pop3.zoominternet.net receiving reported error
(0x800ccc0f) The connection to the server was interrupted.

This morning I had 64 emails and had to download most of them five times
until the receive was complete. Have also experienced some difficulty in
sending, but sending in more reliable than receiving.

I read that disabling NAV email scanning just removes an additional layer of
protection and NAV will continue to scan emails. Can anyone verify this?

Virusscan integration in Outlook is indeed "an extra". Outlook on its own is
safe already as attachments cannot automatically execute and scripts cannot
be run in the Reading Pane. Also Outlook blocks access to a lot of
potentially dangerous files. In case you do execute a virus your on access
scanner will kick in.
