Trying to find the recommended max items per folder running outlook 2003 in
exchange cached mode.

Experiencing performance issues, seems to be on client only.

Outlook 2003 (and 2007) support unlimited items if using Unicode format.
Which version of Exchange? I think only 5.5 would not use Unicode.

Many people see performance issues when the pst gets up around 5 and 6 GB or
when there are many items in a folder. My preference was under 2000 items
in my inbox but it often grew to 5000, but others were satisfied with
performance with 10,000 or more in the folder. The inbox (which I used
constantly) was the only one that was a problem with larger numbers of
messages.

So the recommended amount of items are 2000 per folder, I'm trying to put a
document together for our users regarding this.

Since we are using Enterprise Vault which archive automatically so the size
is not as much of a problem as the sheer number of items, we have several
perfomance complains as people are still trying to find information in their
inbox, sent items and sometimes it contains 5000 and even 10000 items so
outlook comes to a choke for a couple of minutes before it can show the
desired view.

I aim to get a "recommended number of items" in a folder and get the users
to move the enterprise vault archived folder to get the items down enough.
