I recently upgraded to ZoneAlarm Pro version 5.5.062.011 (TrueVector
security engine version 5.5.062.011 with Driver version 5.5.062.011).
After updating, Outlook fails to send email. Maybe something else
other than this ZoneAlarm upgrade is causing this problem, but this
seems the most coincidental.
Sending an email now produces the following error message:
Task 'XXXXXXX Mail Server - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) :
'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem
continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service
provider (ISP).'
Downloading email is successful.
Using Outlook's built-in email testing I receive the following
results:
Establish network connection Completed
Find outgoing mail server (SMTP) Completed
Find incoming mail server (POP3) Completed
Log onto incoming mail server (POP3) Completed
Send test e-mail message Failed
And this error message: regarding the failure:
Send test e-mail message: The specified server was found, but there
was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL
information is correct. To access these settings close this dialog,
then click More Settings and click on the Advanced tab.
Changes attempted to remedy this situation:
1. added SMTP server into ZoneAlarm's Trusted Zone
Various other tests include:
1. Successfully receiving email on the affected computer using Outlook
2003. This occurs simultaneously with the sending email failure.
2. Successfully sending email from my old Eudora email client on the
affected computer. Norton Anti-Virus comes up and scans the email as
expected.
3. Successfully sending email from computers at home that has not been
upgraded to newest ZoneAlarm Pro. These machines use the same email
server as my machine at work.
Conclusions:
It is NOT the email server of my ISP as evidenced by
successful sends and receives through Eudora on the same computer on
which Outlook sends fail.
It is NOT my computer's Internet connection as evidenced by
successful sends and receives on the same computer on which Outlook
sends fail.
Any good ideas would be greatly appreciated.
