For some reason, I have three "Personal Folders" files open in my
Outlook 2003, only one of which corresponds to the set into which my
internet-only (no Exchange) mail is delivered.
On that one, when I right click on the folder name, the option "Close
'Personal Folders'" is greyed out. On the other two, which
corresponds to an older version of the files, when I right click, on
one it is greyed out, on the other it is not creyed out. When I
select it, I get a pop-up box saying "Operation failed, an object
could not be found."
I went to support.microsoft.com, and found a page for Outlook 2000
which tells me to edit the registry to delete the offending entries.
But this is Outlook 2003, the key described is not present.
When I try to search for a similar page for Outlook 2003 using the
context-sensitive keyword search field, when I start to enter "Outlook
2003 operation failes object could" I get a number of completions
presented in a drop-down, one of which is "Outlook 2003 operation
failed object could not be found close personal folder", which would
seem to be exactly what I want. But, when I select it, all I get is a
list of pages talking about what to do after upgrading to service pack
3 (which I did before the problem ever arose).
I reported this to Microsoft, and got some doubletalk back from
someone with an Indian surname, asking me to contact another
Indian-surnamed manager if I am unhappy. They didn't want to provide
the missing web page, but insisted I open up a support ticket in my
home country. I see nothing but a big runaround and lots of lost time
and cost here.
How would I clean this issue? I've searched the registry, and don't
find any keys which contain the characters "outlook.pst" which I know
to be the name of one of the valid files open. Is this data stored
elsewhere in Outlook 2003?
Thanks,
Charles
