Outlook 2003 hang during email preview - but comes back after five

Sometimes when I'm previewing an email, then I select the next email, instead of loading the next preview outlook hangs. If I wait 5 minutes it usually comes back, it I end task I can reload outlook immediately.

I'm running Outlook 2003, all patches applied.

I also have at least 10% of my users reporting similar issues.

Do you have IM turned on? HTML being downloaded? Are the messages virus
messages?

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

Thanks for the response. No I don't use IM at all - just passport for pages such as this one. No html - although I have that enabled I don't think that's a common thread. No viruses - my email system cleans them out before I get them.

As I said before - the problem happens when I select a new message - right when outlook is deciding to preview it - the entire client freezes. I have changed my views around from the default, I have the preview pane on the bottom and email list on the top.
