Outlook 2003 Hangs on Spell Check

In replying to a message, spell check often causes my Outlook to hang. I do
not use Word as the editor - emails are in HTML format - it's set up to spell
check on "Send". Regardless of how long I wait, it remains unresponsive ...
the only remedy is to "End TasK". Thanks in advance for any suggestions??
