Outlook 2003 Hangs when sending email from external source

Hi

the company I work for uses a server to host it's own email (server MS
Windows Small Business Server 2003) and ONLY has 10 PCs connected thru it.

All PCs run Windows XP SP3 and OUTLOOK 2003 as our mail client.

All patches on the O/S and Office apps are installed.

When using another program (used in day-to-day, minute-by-minute activity)
which is itself programmed to send emails from it by hitting an "Email"
button (which then gives us the option to send an email as an attachment or
as text within the body of the email, or both) it correctly routes thru to
OUtlook 2003, opens up a blank email, attaches or adds the text as required
and then, when we hit Send OUTLOOK simply freezes.

This is ONLY happening on 2 PCS out of the 10. All configurations that I can
see are identical. Additionally, this ONLY happens 5-6 times per day on each
of these 2 PCs, the rest of the time all functions as normal. But, in the 5-6
times per day, especially if our staff have had to take the time to add
additional text to the body of the email as fired up by OUTLOOK, are getting
infuriating as this work is then lost and they ahve to start all over again.

What I find strange as well is that when I open Task Manager I can clearly
see Outlook 2003 as both a running Application AND Service. Yet If I do an
ALT+TAB, Outlook is NOT running anymore.

The only way to "solve this" is to close Oulook down from Task Manager.

I am looking at MAPI settings, Firewalling config and even SpellChecker as
causes...

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Is this a known issue??

....no thoughts on this?????

Today I actually replaced the network card in one of the two PCs that have
been having this trouble to see if that resolves issue, and the MTU setting
on the PC I re-set to default from 1850 which was, I thought, way too high...

....I'll keep you posted
