Outlook 2003 hangs

I recently installed Outlook 2003 on my new computer running XP Home.
Outlook runs fine but then it will get stalled in a send/receive process. If
I kill the Outlook process, I will always find that there is another process
called OUTLOOK still running. If I terminate that process, and restart
Outlook, it runs fine for a while until the problems starts all over again.

Do you have any ideas about what I need to do to fix this?

have you checked your pc for viruses?
HAve you run
control panel, software, microsoft office, add/remove, repair?
