Outlook 2003 Hangups

I have serious hangups in nearly all aspects of outlook.
Launch is slow, opening any email causes a not-responding hang up
Clicking active URL's results in a crash. Just clicking an email
results in a 30 second wait time for preview generation...Word launches
quickly.
Is there a 'quit being slow' option in outlook I seem to have
unchecked?

I had identical problems - I tried all I could but my patience wore thin so I
reinstalled Outlook from my XP CD.
