Outlook 2003 has gone half-mad - or is it me?

Having kept fully up-to-date with security updates (Vista SP2 included), I've
been immensely frustrated in the last few days with only "half-functionality"
in Outlook 2003 (11.8217.8221, SP3). I'm not 100% sure when the problem
started, but it was certainly after deleting, then re-installing, one of my
Hotmail accounts, using Connector, because it had lost its synchronicity with
the actual account. The inboxes (four accounts) are all still synchronising
properly, but I am unable to enter a reply, or add new calendar appointments
(or contacts), or even modify any of the accounts via the tools menu. When I
try to, I get the error messages, respectively, "The messaging interface has
returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook;" "The
item could not be saved to this folder. The folder has been deleted or moved,
or you do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it in the
default folder for the item?" "The operation has failed due to a registry or
installation problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem
persists, please reinstall." I have tried all the suggested actions,
including reinstalling Office, deleting and re-installing Connector, all to
no avail. Chkdsk/f also didn't help. I had installed Outlook backup tool,
but uninstalled it. ALso uninstalled Vista SP2 and re-installed. I have
also used the SCANPST.exe tool and repaired .pst files. Still no joy. Any
suggestions, before I pull out the rest of my hair?

Thanks Diane,

Yes, I did try, but selecting "tools" then "E-mail accounts" just gets me
the error message and I can get no further. Trying the same exercise from
Control panel is also not effective.

Your suggestion appreciated neverthelss.

No, I'm not mad, as I "accidentally" found how I could regain lost
functionality; by adding another new account via Connector! Once I did that,
I was able to open and reply to e-mails in that account AND the other
accounts that had been causing grief. However, when I went to "tools",
"E-mail accounts" (which opened this time), I saw two instances of both the
new acount and one of the my previously used ones. Once I deleted the new
e-mail account and tried to run Outllook again, I was back to the same
problem.

What I call a "half-solution"! Any thoughts out there?
