Outlook 2003 has stopped sending/receiving

Send/receive became increasingly intermittent, and has now stopped
altogether. The error message is: Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) :
'The connection to the server was interrupted..." Sometimes it's a timeout
error (such as when I test the acct. settings). This is happenning on three
accounts in outlook. I tried deleting and then re-adding one account - no
luck. There seems to be excessive disk accessing going on leading to
send/receive timeouts. Also, according to Disk Defragmenter, my Outlook.pst
file is highly fragmented (~1 Gb in size). Can anyone interpret the tea
leaves for me? Thanks.

Thanks for the advice. I tried the troubleshooting tips, but none of that
was the problem/solution. It turned out that the Trend Micro Antivirus
software I just installed was scanning all the incoming e-mails (normally a
good thing) but taking so long that the server timed out (not a good thing).
I turned off the incoming mail scanning and a torrent of e-mails flowed into
my inbox. Nevertheless, I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my
post. Now if only I can get incoming scanning working without crashing
send/receive...

Cheers,

John

Scanning messages is generally a waste of time because as long as the
on-access scanner for your AV product runs, you'll still be protected. The
best protection, however, lies between your ears. Don't open attachments
you haven't specifically requested or confirmed were actually sent by
someone you know. You'll avoid 99% of all viruses that way.
