Outlook 2003: How do you unset the unread-message colour?

A

Adam Nielsen

Hi all,

A few months back I updated the automatic formatting in my Outlook 2003
inbox (connected to an Exchange server) and suddenly all my unread
messages have gone the same colour.

Previously, unread messages would appear bold, but they'd be whatever
colour my other rules set (e.g. messages sent to me would always be
blue. If they were unread they'd be bold+blue.)

Now I can only see the colours once I've read the e-mails, which doesn't
really help me prioritise them (which was the point behind setting colours.)

Does anyone know how to unset the colour used for unread messages, and
just leave it as bold?

Thanks,
Adam.

Does anyone know how to unset the colour used for unread messages, and
View, Current View, Customize Current View, Automatic formatting

You forgot View, Arrange By :) Okay, so that's where I configured all
my other formatting, how do I unset the colour used for unread messages?
Currently it's set to Auto, which makes all my unread messages black,
overriding the other auto format rules I have set up.

Thanks,
Adam.

Another path to the same place, provided you continue with Custom,
Automatic formating ;-) . First understand that rules are applied in the
order they are in. So, to do what you are describing, create your own
unread rule, say "My Unread Rule" with condition set to "Unread" and
then move it to below the other rules you have, and then with Auto
color, it won't change the color the other rules set, remember to set
Bold and Tahoma to match the original.

Ah, brilliant, that worked! I disabled the default unread rule (as you
can't move it), and created my own unread rule with the colour set to
auto, put it last and now all my unread messages are bold again, but
coloured according to my other rules.

Thanks very much for your help! This has been bugging me for ages :)

Cheers,
Adam.

You're most welcome, have a great day!
