Outlook 2003 Icon in Quick Launch

S

SmootS

1) Is there a way to specify which profile Outlook 2003
uses when it is launched? I don't want to change the
default profile, I want to specify a profile and have the
default is different for another mail client.

2) Related Question: After you run Outlook the first time,
it (outlook) creates an icon in the quick launch with no
specific profile. Can I customize that icon to include
the desired Profile?

Thanks Scott,

Yea, I know I can manullay put the /Profile switch on the
short cut, but I don't want to do 650 times, (one for
each user). Is there a way to set that profile in the
registry, through group policiy, in the original MSI, via
a transfrom, or using the Custom Installation Wizard, or
any other way than manually.

Scott,

You can modify the shortcut to include the /profile switch. The following
article has the syntax.

Hope this helps.

You can use a .prf file to push out a new default profile. If you haven't
yet deployed Office then you can set up your profiles in the CIW. Then you
push out the transform during the installation. If you have already deployed
Office then you can use the CMW to push out a new default profile. The ORK
has a great deal of information on pushing out profiles.

If you just need the actual registry location for specifying the default
Outlook profile, it is:

Key: HKCU\software\Microsoft\Windows NT\currentversion\Windows Messaging
Subsystem\Profile
string: DefaultProfile

So, you can use a script to modify this string value if that's the direction
you want to go.

Hope this helps.
