Outlook 2003 in cache mode turns off automatically

I’m running Outlook 2003 SP2 with an Exchange 2000 account – I enable outlook
cache mode – for some unknown reason the setting turns off frequently. I go
back to enable it and after a few restarts of outlook the check box for “Use
Exchange in Cache Mode†is unchecked. I cleared my ost and restarted many
times without success – I cleared my profile without success.

Hope someone out there can help with this strange phenomenon – its driving
me mad.

Does your Office use a GPO to turn off Cached Exchange mode?

No GPO's dont enforce the cache mode... but what i found intresting was this
article which decribed how to enable cached mode in the registry...
=============
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<ProfileName>\13dbb0c8aa05101a9bb000aa002fc45a

Value name: 00036601
Value type: REG_BINARY
Values: 94 01 00 00 (enabled), 14 00 00 00 (disabled)
==========================

but when i checked the value i had 84 01 00 00 instead of 94 01 00 00

how was that possible

There are several possible "enabled" values for that registry setting because it manages multiple options for Cached Exchange mode, e.g. (http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/cachedmoderegkey.htm):

enabled value; 84 01 00 00
enabled with Public Folders/Favorites: 84 05 00 00
disabled value; 04 00 00 00

I know that doesn't solve your problem, but I don't think the registry value is at the heart of it. Have you run Help | Detect and Repair? Is anyone else in your office having problems with Cached Exchange mode?
