Outlook 2003 install problem

Well it installed alright, however, when I went to send a hyperlink in
a message it showed up as blue etc, but it didn't work.

I did some reading and saw that Word is set up to be the default email
editor in 2003 which it wasn't. In fact when I go the the mail
options, mail format tab the section for use Word as email editor is
greyed out so I can't select it.

Any ideas what is going on. We just did a standard install?
