Outlook 2003 is crashing and generating entries in the Event Log

Hello all,

I've got a new installation of WinXP with SP2 and Office 2003 installed.
When I run Outlook it comes up and crashes within 5-10 seconds. I receive the
"...outlook encountered an error and needs to close..." message.

After looking in the Application Event Log for my system I have discovered
that every time I open Outlook it generates anywhere from 16 to 20 warning
entries into the log, most of which look something like this:

"Detection of product '{90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}', feature
'OUTLOOKFiles' failed during request for component
'{3CE26368-6322-4ABF-B11B-458F5C450D0F}'"

and then each group of entries is ended by an error entry that says this:

"Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.8010.0, stamp 43d16d53,
faulting module ocmspst.dll, version 9.0.4.4042, stamp 43a37475, debug? 0,
fault address 0x00003527."

The only other application on my system that I have been able to pinpoint is
PGP Deskop 9, if I uninstall the application Outlook does not crash but
continues to generate all the warning messages in the log. If I reinstall PGP
the crash behavior returns.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office, repairing Office,
deleting and creating new Outlook profiles, and starting with new pst files.

Any other ideas for whats going on?

Thanks,

Mark

Have you updated Outlook 2003 with the latest service pack and security
updates?
It would seem that PGP is the culprit. I'd uninstall it if it was effecting
me like that.

Yes, all office update patches are installed.

What strikes me as odd is that after uninstalling PGP Outlook continues to
throw all the warnings except the last one that makes it crash. Now with PGP
gone I have what I consider to be an unstable Office environment, which
uninstalling and reinstalling does not fix. Is really the only way to fix
this a complete OS reinstall?

An OS reinstall is really the last resort. We don't see many using PGP and
you have narrowed the issue to PGP yourself. You could see if there is an
updated version of PGP that behaves better. You might also look at disabling
all other Outlook add-ins and see if maybe one is acting with PGP to cause
the problem or maybe causing some of the issues itself.

I hear you but.....

PGP is gone now and I'm still getting errors. Can anyone help with resolving
the Outlook error messages that are still being generated in my system log?
